Zap Away Unwanted Hair Growth for Good
Women and men alike can benefit from laser hair removal at Skin Care by Alyce in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
Embarrassing body hair can negatively affect your self-image. Especially in the summertime when it’s time to show some skin! But who wants knicks and bumps that come from shaving? Many women wax to avoid regular razor use, but this solution creates its own problems, particularly if you are averse to sharp, excruciating pain. Laser hair removal is a high-tech procedure that will permanently reduce and even eliminate hair growth in targeted areas.
By leveraging the science of optics, laser hair removal destroys hair follicles deep down at their roots. The long wavelengths of laser light pass painlessly through the upper layers of the epidermis. But the relatively darker pigments embedded within the follicular shaft actually attract the warm rays of the powerful laser beam. The laws of physics illuminated long ago that light and color are intimately associated. Our laser hair removal treatments seize upon this chromatic camaraderie to dramatically diminish hair growth in a lasting fashion while leaving your tender skin tissue unharmed.
We recommend that patients with dark, coarse hair consider the treatment. Lasers respond best to deep, rich pigments. For optimal results, multiple treatments may be necessary.

An ideal candidate for laser hair removal exhibits a significant difference in pigment between their skin and hair color. Laser hair removal works through a process called selective photothermolysis (SPTL). In SPTL, the beam’s frequency must be attuned to darker colors. This allows the laser to glide past the relatively fairer skin pigments and eliminate the deep, rich melanin buried within the roots of growing follicles.
There are some laser hair removal techniques that have recently broadened the patient pool to include individuals with darker skin or lighter hair. To discern if you may be a qualified candidate for laser hair removal, schedule an informational consultation with one of our knowledgeable aesthetic technicians at Skin Care by Alyce.

Preparation & Procedure
You should avoid direct sunlight before your laser hair removal appointment. Intense exposure to any UV light can easily intensify your skin’s reaction to the procedure’s rapidly pulsating laser beam. Uneven pigmentation in the skin from recent sun exposure may cause complications.
Hair growth takes place cyclically, in three stages. The most effective laser hair removal takes place during the androgen (full-growth) phase, so your treatment sessions may be timed about four to eight weeks apart to maximize your results. If you have especially sensitive skin, we may numb the target area with a topical anesthetic before we begin the procedure.
Patients usually see the best results after three to five sessions. The length of treatment depends on the texture of the patient’s hair and the amount of hair being removed.
Recovery & Results
You should follow Alyce’s aftercare instructions explicitly to ensure a safe and speedy recovery from laser hair removal. Any unpleasant side effects you may experience will be similar to those you might experience after a day of prolonged sun exposure. To treat any discomfort, apply ice or a cool aloe gel to the affected area.
Side Effects of Laser Hair Removal
How Permanent Is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is the best way to permanently reduce follicular growth in specific areas of the body. The procedure targets and destroys hair follicles in your selected treatment zone. However, the unique nature of the hair growth cycle means that some follicles may remain functional after your initial treatment. Hair that is in a resting phase will grow back more slowly than hair that is in another, more active phase. We recommend a series of laser hair removal sessions for optimal, long-lasting results.

Skin Care by Alyce offers a bespoke suite of services that are tailored to your individual needs. Your costs may vary depending on the color and texture of your hair, as well as the size of the proposed treatment area. Smoothing out your underarms is relatively simple compared to achieving a stubble-free neck and back, for instance. And yet, both sleek outcomes are completely achievable at Skin Care by Alyce! Peruse our clients’ five-star reviews to see their satisfaction for yourself. We love to bring people’s aesthetic aspirations to reality at a reasonable price.
Hair grows in different cycles, so it is highly unlikely that a single laser hair removal session will sufficiently eliminate all of the follicles in your target area. Hair in the active growth phase will respond the most positively to laser treatments, while follicles in the resting phase will require repeated sweeps of the laser array at a subsequent appointment. For the best results, we recommend three to five laser hair removal sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart.
It often depends on the area being treated and your individual pain threshold. Most aestheticians will tell you that laser hair removal is similar to the sensation of tiny rubber bands snapping against your skin. But the treatment is very well tolerated by most people. And there is no arguing that a series of laser hair removal sessions are infinitely more appealing than a lifetime of repeatedly waxing. If your skin is especially sensitive, you may request that your aesthetician apply a cool numbing cream to the target area before your treatment. This will ensure that you have a pleasant procedure. You may experience some redness and swelling of skin for up to a day or two after your laser hair removal session.
We recommend that you shave the treatment area(s) the night before your laser hair removal appointment. Shaving will make it easier for the laser’s rays to penetrate the skin without long shafts of hair absorbing too much energy. A smooth working surface will provide your aesthetic laser technician adequate access to the follicular roots of unwanted hair growth. However, do not shave immediately before your laser hair removal treatment, as this increases the odds of inflammation and swelling.
