About Botox
BOTOX Cosmetic is the only approved prescription medicine to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. It relaxes the muscle under a wrinkle, blocking signals that go from the nerves to the muscle.
After injection of Botox, the muscle can no longer contract, causing wrinkles to relax and soften. Wrinkles that are caused by sun damage and gravity will not respond to Botox.
BOTOX Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy.
With more than 25 years of experience and an extensive technical understanding of facial muscular anatomy, Alyce is a certified injector by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Her combination of experience and expertise ensures that your results are beautiful and natural to you. Less experienced injectors may result in a “frozen” or “plastic” face that looks obviously treated.
Areas Treated
Botox injections are primarily for the prevention of wrinkles and signs of aging on the face, but may also be used for the treatment of migraines, neck spasms, and hyperhidrosis.
Botox injections are ideal treatments for:
- Prevention of facial wrinkles
- Prevention of smile lines
- Prevention of frown lines
- Migraine treatments
- Hyperhidrosis (overactive sweat glands)
Benefits of Botox
There are many reasons that this is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments on the market. Some of those are as follows:
BOTOX is very safe
As one of the most popular treatments performed worldwide, Botox injections are performed for millions of patients annually. Even with these high numbers, the treatment has a great safety record and continues to improve with its formation.
Non-Surgical
Fast
Often touted as “lunch hour procedure,” Botox injections can be completed quickly and they require no recovery time. A single session can get you in and out in less than half an hour. Results also show up quickly, with many patients seeing improvement within 4-7 days and full results showing up after two weeks.
Can Be Combined With Other Procedures
Botox treatments can be combined with other facial rejuvenation treatments such as chemical peels or IPL treatments for a comprehensive anti-aging treatment.
The Injection Process
The number of Botox units is varied according to the needs of each patient. Our philosophy always places the goals of the patient at the top and the treatment is fully tailored to achieve the best, most natural-looking results. Great results can be achieved with just a single, precise injection or may require a combination of three or more targeted injections to achieve a desired result.
Botox Recovery
As mentioned earlier, many people are able to receive their Botox injections during their lunch breaks due to the fact that there is no downtime required. Generally speaking, after your Botox treatment, you can be back on your daily routine without missing a moment. However, there are some things you can do on your end to ensure a speedy post-injection recovery. They are as follows:
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to help results settle and to maximize your own comfort
- Refrain from the use of NSAIDs or blood thinners for 24 hours, as thinning of the blood promotes bruising
- Avoid heat from baths, showers, and other forms, as this will also lessen your risks of post-injection bruising
- Apply an ice pack to the area, but only for 20 minutes or less in a particular area
- Avoid rubbing the injection site, as this can negatively affect your results.
BOTOX Cosmetic Results
Botox works beneath the skin’s surface, targeting the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet. You may begin to notice results within 5 to 10 days for reduction of moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.
Botox injections are ideal for treating the following areas:
- Glabella: The smooth part of the forehead above and between the eyebrows.
- Crow’s Feet: A branching wrinkle at the outer corner of the eye.
- Forehead: The area above the eyebrows.
The vast majority of patients who receive Botox treatments report high satisfaction in their results.
How Is Botox Different From Dermal Fillers?
Although both treatments are injectable and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, the way they create change is different. Botox weakens the muscles responsible for frowning and squinting, smoothing even deep frown lines. Quite differently, dermal fillers are injected to replace lost fat and volume in the face, creating more definition and filling the skin out, naturally reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
This FDA-approved injectable is used to improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles between the brows from brow-furrowing. It is also often used on smile lines and “crow’s feet”, both of which are typically from squinting, frowning, or laughing.
Because they do different things, they are often used in combination with one another. Botox results typically last 3-4 months. With dermal fillers, it depends on the type. A common scenario is for a person to be treated with Botox to correct lines between the eyes and a dermal filler to correct marionette lines (smile lines around the mouth).
Dysport vs. Botox
Dysport and Botox are similar products, as both are type botulinum type A used to relax the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Dysport is a smaller molecule, Both injections will need to be redone with 3-6 months to maintain results. There are some very subtle differences, which are as follows:
- Dysport has been shown to have a slightly quicker onset (2-5 days as opposed to 4-7 for Botox)
- Dysport diffuses more, which is an advantage in some parts of the face while a disadvantage in others.
We can discuss both options with you and help you decide which is better for your presenting concerns.
